I am a Buckinghamshire-based maternity photographer working in Milton Keynes since 2018. It’s truly an honor when you love and are passionate about your work, especially when a reputable organization appreciates and recognizes it as a piece of art. Though I’m belated in sharing my excitement, I recently entered several competitions with modest expectations, anticipating either a bronze medal or no recognition at all.

To my delight, my maternity picture secured 2nd place. I was over the moon at that moment.

“The judges wanted to highlight your extraordinary photograph because of the wonderful combination of elements in it:

The first is for the beauty of the Rembrandt-like lighting you chose, as it gives volume to the shapes and detail in the shadows at the same time and gives it a classic and timeless character.

Another element to highlight is the composition. By choosing a frontal pose and placing the model’s hands around her belly, you have created a repeating pattern (head, hand, hand, knee) that creates a rhythm and a direction for the reading of the image that ends in the oval shape created by the bottom of the dress. Wonderful!

The choice of the color palette is another success as it helps to enhance the overall warmth of the scene.

And finally, the judges want to highlight the subtlety of your retouching, without exaggeration. The word that best defines it is “elegant”.
