From 1st birthday to turning two, cake smash photoshoot

From a jungle adventure to outer space: Maverick’s birthday journey

Two birthdays. Two completely different themes. And one very special little boy who has grown so much in between.

I first photographed Maverick when he came to me for his first birthday cake smash photoshoot in Milton Keynes. Now, a year later, he is back in front of my camera to celebrate turning two.

Seeing the difference between those two sessions was just amazing.

One Year Old and Ready for a Jungle Adventure

For Maverick’s first birthday, his family chose a jungle safari cake smash.

It was playful, colourful and full of little safari-inspired details — the perfect setting for celebrating his very first trip around the sun.

At this age, everything is new. The cake, the decorations, the camera, the excitement of the day. Those tiny expressions and curious little looks are exactly what make a first birthday cake smash so special.

And looking back at those photographs now makes this second session even more meaningful.

Two Years Old and Off to Space

Fast forward one year and Maverick is now two!

His family decided to take his birthday celebration in a completely different direction with a space-themed second birthday photoshoot.

And honestly, it suited him perfectly.

Maverick is such a happy and naturally photogenic little boy. Put him in front of the camera and his personality just comes through. His smiles, expressions, and playful nature make it so easy to capture photographs that feel natural rather than posed.

Watching him confidently enjoy his second birthday session compared with his first birthday was such a lovely reminder of just how quickly children grow.

The Joy of Photographing the Same Child Year After Year

This is one of the things I love most about being a children’s photographer.

When a family returns, I don’t just see another photoshoot. I see another chapter.

I get to see how much their child has changed, how their personality has developed and how quickly those little baby features become the face of a growing toddler.

Being trusted to photograph both of Maverick’s birthdays is something I am genuinely grateful for.

When Families Choose You Again, It Means So Much

There is a special kind of happiness that comes with seeing a familiar family walk through the studio door again.

When parents choose me for one milestone and then return for another, I feel incredibly proud. It tells me that they loved not only the photographs but also the experience of having those memories created.

For me, photography has always been about more than creating pretty images.

It is about being trusted with the moments that families know they will want to remember.

Maverick’s family gave me that opportunity twice, and I feel very lucky to have been part of his first and second birthdays.

Cake Smash Sessions in Milton Keynes That Tell Your Child’s Story

Every child is different, which is why I love creating personalised cake smash sessions in Milton Keynes.

Maverick’s first birthday was a jungle safari adventure. His second birthday took him into outer space. Two themes, two ages and two completely different stages of his childhood.

That’s the beauty of personalised birthday photography.

Your child’s session doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It can be inspired by their personality, their favourite things or simply an idea you’ve been dreaming about for their birthday.

Capturing the Little Moments Before They Become Memories

Maverick is two now, but this stage won’t last forever.

The cheeky smiles, the excited expressions, the way he looks at the camera and that happy little personality — one day these will be memories his family looks back on.

That is why I love what I do.

A cake smash photoshoot in Milton Keynes might be planned around a birthday cake, a theme and some beautiful decorations, but what we are really creating are photographs of your child exactly as they are today.

And I can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings for this lovely family.
